La PazLa Paz is the capital of the Baja California Sur State and it has a total population of about 250,000 people. The city owes its name to the Spanish Explorer Sebastián Vizcaíno who established a camp in the place. The spanish conquerors suddenly became aware of the richness of pearls in the region, and exploited this resource until it virtually dissapeared. Two ferry services connect La Paz with Mexico's mainland, (Connections travel to Mazatlan and Topolobampo). In this important touristic spot, various Natural attraction can be reached, like the Isla Espiritu Santo and the Isla Cerralvo, ideal for pracricing scuba diving and discovering species like the hammerhead sharks and the giant rays. La Paz counts with important testimonies of its historical past, like the Cathedral of "Nuestra Señora de La Paz", the Regional Natural History Museum, and the Californias library.
