Loreto
In October 1697, a Jesuite Friar, Juan Maria de Salvatierra, founded the Mission of "Our Lady of Loreto" or "Nuestra Señora de Loreto". This was considered the mother af all missions of the upper and Lower California. From this point, various Jesuites departed to cristianize this wild territory. Today, this temple can be admired and still preserves a simple stone facade.
Loreto was the first capital of the Californias (Both, the American and the Mexican California), and today, Loreto is a calmed town in the middle of Baja California surrounded by spectacular natural landscapes, like the Loreto Bay Marine Natural Park, formed by a group of islands whose shores make it an ideal place for practicing sports like Scuba Diving, snorkeling, and fishing. Likewise, Loreto's surrounding mountains form a unique contrast with the calmed waters of the Sea of Cortez.
In the Bay area, you will be able to find beaches with soft tides, such as Nopolo and Puerto Escondido, where you will be able to taste the local seafood cuisine.
