Los Angeles Bay

Journalist Fernando Jordán carried out during the year 1951 a journey across Baja California. He described the wonders of what he considered the "Other Mexico", and his text reflects a particular sense of amazement when he arrived to one of the most beautiful spots of the Baja Coast, The Los Angeles Bay.

Explorer Francisco de Ulloa sailed through this region around the 1540's, but the Jesuite Monk Juan the Ugarte was the first Spaniard to place foot on this land in the year 1721. The bay became an anchorage point for ships that took materials to the San Borja Mission, located at 37 kilometers from the coast.

Los Angeles Bay is located at 297 km south east of Rosario, in the front of this bay, most of the islands of the Gulf of California are gathered. These islands were declared protected areas in the year 1978, due to its importance in preserving the endemic ecosystems of the region. The island "Angel de la Guarda" or "Guardian Angel" is the most important in the area and it receives various important species from the gulf of California, such as marine Lions, killer whales, and endemic birds. Few places in the gulf of California count with the richness of wildlife as Los Angeles Bay does.
