Villahermosa and la VentaVillahermosa is the capital of the Mexican State of Tabasco, its origins date back to the XVIth century, when the city was called "San Juan Bautista de Tabasco". The relative importance that this city acquired during the colonial period caused various constructions of Churches and civil buildings, but very few of it remains today, since most of it was destroyed during numerous battles in the XIXth and XXth century.} Today, Tabasco is one of the most ubanized cities in Mexico's southeastern region. Villahermosa's historical center still preserves some of its old atmosphere. Of parfticular cultural importance is the "Parque Museo de la Venta", this Museum-park holds one of the greatest collections of olmec cultural expressions, among which the visitor can fing the famous "Olmec heads". 14 of these heads have been found across Mexico, and 3 of them are placed in this museum.
