CozumelCozumel is an island in the Mexican Caribbean that can be reached from Playa del Carmen by Ferry. Cozumel is the third largest island in Mexico and the most populated one due to its large touristic activities. In the ancient times, this island used to be a place dedicated to the Mayan fertility godess Ixchel, and it used to receive mayan pilgrims asking for a child, as well as mayan farmers looking to increase their crops. The island measures approximately 48 km from North to South, and 16 kilometers from east to west, and its main activity is the tourism dedicated to Scuba diving. The Marine Park "Cozumel Reefs" is a Natural protected area. The diving spots in Cozumel are particularly located in the western part of the island. The Palancar reef, famous among scuba divers, is located in the southwestern part of the island.
