In Playa del Carmen, an important hotel complex was developed, Playacar, in which International hotel corporations developed some of the most important resorts in the Mexican caribbean. Besides its magnificent beaches, Playa del Carmen's main attraction is its 5th avenue, in which you will be able to find a wide variety of bars, restaurants, art galleries and souvenir shops. Activities such as scuba diving in Cozumel reefs, swimming in cenotes (giant natural pools), or tours to various Mayan ruins can easily be arranged from Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen's dock offers ferry trips towards Cozumel, the ride usually takes around half an hour and tickets can be purchased in booths located in the 5th avenue, or directly at the dock.
