The desert has an approximate extension 630,000 sqkm, and it covers the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Durango, Zacatecas, and San Luis Potosí. The different ecological regions that form this land give birth to some unique landscapes. The grasslands provide support to a number of desert mule deers, foxes and sheeps that graze through the Mexican plains, The particular geography of the western part of this region, can be best admired through the Chihuahua - Pacifico train route, which stops at various locations in which the traveler can admire the geological formations of the famous copper canyon. During this route, you will be able to visit the towns of Creel and Cuauhtémoc, home to the largest menonite community in the state of Chihuahua.
