Kino BayThe place owes its name to the Spanish jesuite missioner Eusebio Francisco Kino, who explored this land during the XVIIth century. In the 1930's, a group of fishermen established what we know today as "Old Kino" Located at 107 km from the State capital of Sonora, Kino bay is one of the main destinations in the eastern coast of the Sea of Cortez. It is divided in two main cities, "Old Kino", which is where the majority of the population lives, and "New Kino",located at 2 km from old kino, with modern tourism infrastructure. The people living at Old Kino are in their majority fishermen, nearly 50% of the income generated by the community is due to this activity, Some of Kino's population are retired expats living along its coast. In Kino Bay, you will be able to find the roots of the Seri people, who will tell you their story through their art pieces, collars and bracelets produced out of a local wood called "Palo Fierro" Previous government administrations tried to make of Bahia Kino a popular touristic destination, something similar to Acapulco or Cancun, but the efforts ceased due to political problems. Nonetheless, the tourism in this area grew naturally. Interested in visiting this place? Send us through our request from what you would like to do and we will get back to you with our offer.
