Mazatlan

The name Mazatlan comes from the nahuatl name Mazatl, meaning "Place of the deers", and it was founded originally in the year 1531. The city has had various main activities through its history, being the Tourism Industry its main activity today.

Mazatlan is one of the most important Ports in the Pacific coast of Mexico, it is located at 212 km south of Sinaloa state capital, Culoiacán. The Port counts with a considerable touristic infrastructure for the traveller, Mazatlan is the fifth most important touristic destination in Mexico after Cancun, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.

Every year, the city celebrates its annual carnival, around the same time that other canivals occur, 40 days before the Holy week. Mazatlan counts with an International Airport, and it can be reached from various points of the US and Canada.

Mazatlan is known in Mexico as the "Pacific Pearl" due to the beauty of its beaches and its marine life, which make this port an important host of International fishing competitions. Mazatlán is divided in two zones: The Old Mazatlán, and the Golden Zone, which is where most of the large touristic infrastructure lies.

Among the main cultural events that take place in this port we can find: Mazatlan's Cultural Festival and the Sonaloa Arts Festival.
