The Mayas8 days, 7 nights The Yucatan Peninsula is one of Mexico’s most attractive areas. The region counts with some of Mexico’s most spectacular cultural and natural sights. During this route of one week, you will get a chance to visit Yucatan’s main Mayan archeological attractions, together with some fascinating natural wonders. Day 1. Cancun Arrival to Cancun, transfer to your Preferred Hotel Day 2. Cancun – Chichen Itzá - Mérida You will drive in the morning towards the Mayan City of Chichén Itzá. a UNESCO world heritage site. You will get a chance to appreciate some of the most important Mayan temples like The Kukulcan Pyramid, the Chac Mool Temple, the ball game field and the temple of the thousand columns. Day 3. Mérida - Celestún In the morning, you will get a chance to visit the regional Museum, also known as “Museo del Palacio Canton”. You will then head towards Celestún, where you can take a boat ride in the lagoon, where you will get a chance to see the pink flamingos. Overnight in Mérida. Day 4. Mérida – Uxmal – Kabah - Campeche Alter breakfast in the morning, you will head towards the Mayan city of Uxmal, where you will have a chance to appreciate the pyramid of the Magician, the largest Mayan temple in the Puuc Zone and The Nunnery Quadrangle which is the finest of Uxmal's several quadrangles of long buildings with elaborately carved façades. You will then visit the ancient ruins of Kabah. Kabah is known particularly for the palace of masks. The palace is 151 feet long and contains ten chambers arranged in two tiers of five each; the chambers of each pair are built one directly behind the other, with a single outside doorway for each pair. Continue the trip towards Campeche, Overnight in Campeche Day 5. Campeche - Palenque Visit to Campeche, During the XVIth and XVIIth century, the city was assaulted by Pirates in the region, which forced the spanish crown to build a defense system formed by large walls, forts and other ancient military equipment. Campeche's historical centre and its old neighborhoods are considered a UNESCO world heritage site. You will then head towards the Mayan Ruins of Palenque, Overnight in Palenque Day 6. Palenque Visit the Mayan Ruins of Palenque. Palenque’s origins date back to the 5th and 9th century. It is known that it was one of the main cities of the time, along with Toniná, Calakmul, Pomoná, Comalcalco, Tikal and Copán. After the visit to the Mayan ruins, you will be able to swim in the natural pools of the Misol-Ha waterfalls. Overnight Palenque Day 7. Palenque - Chetumal Early morning drive towards Chetumal, on the way you will get a chance to visit the Chicanna archeological zone, with its impressive temple district and fabulous facades. You will then continue towards Kohunlich in the late afternoon, a Mayan temple near the Border with Belize. Arrival to Chetumal in the late afternoon. Overnight in Chetumal. Day 8. Chetumal – Cancun Leave Chetumal crossing the area of the Bacalar lagoon towards the archaeological site of Tulum. The Tulum Mayan fortress, is beautifully located by the Caribbean seaside. This magnificent Mayan settlement dates back to the year 450 a.c., though most of the visible archeology today was constructed between the year 1200 and 1550. In ancient times it used to be called under the Mayan name of "Zama", meaning "City of Sunrise", the name was given due to Tulum's spectacular sunrises. Arrive to Cancun or any other preferred location along the Riviera Maya (Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, etc). End of tour or optional extended stay.
