Chacahua Lagoons
The Oaxaca coast is a place of singular beauty. The Chacahua lagoons National Park offers a unique perspective from this coast, The lagoons are located at approximately 1 hour from Puerto Escondido, they are formed by three bodies of water, called Chacahua, Pastoría and Salinas. This place is home to a large number of aquatic bird species.
The local communities are mainly fishermen that are keen to show the tourist around in their boats. The National Park is also home to some turtle nesting beaches. The site only counts with basic infrastructure and some bungalows can be found in Zapotalito, which is the town where boats depart towards Chacahua.
The lagoons are surrounded by mangroves, in a total ara of 2710 ha. The mangroves sustain a rich ecosystem that helps mantain the local fisheries.
