TaxcoThe place was originally known as "Taxco viejo", the city owes its name to the Nahuatl name "Tlachtlico", whoch meand "Place of the ball game". The city was originally a mining camp, and it further developed into a larger town. Its structure reflects the disorganised growth that mining cities used to have, since some of its streets are severely inclined, however, this disorganised structure is also part of Taxco's charm. The town of Taxco is particularly known for its silver production. On saturdays, the silver market opens its doors to visitors from all over the country looking to buy some of the best silverware in Mexico. Among Taxco's main architectural attractions, we can find the temple of Santa Prisca. This temple was built between 1751 and 1758, and it represents the baroque art in its late stage. The cost of the building was completely covered by a rich miner of French origin, Jose de la Borda, what used to be his old house, today is Taxco's house of culture. Taxco owes a large part of its fame to William Spratling, an American who installed the first silver-workhouse in town. Interested in visiting this place?
